Artistic encounters
in war and violent conflict

Opening of Cecilia Salinas' Exhibition ARTivisme [24.02.22]

The opening will take place February 24, 2022 at 18:00-19:00 CET. The event is free. Salinas will together with our INSPIRE-researcher, Cindy Horst, share reflections, experiences and dreams about how art and academia can complement each other in the future.

What happens when art and anthropology meet as two equal parts? ARTivisme is a collection of digital drawings and texts that sprung out of the research project "Privatlivets grenser" (The boundaries of private life) at The Institute of Social Anthropology, University of Oslo. The collages and the texts in this exhibition are part of a series created under Salinas' ethnographic fieldwork among Norwegians with minority background in the art and culture sector.

Between March and November 2021 Salinas investigated how the research subjects used social media and their experience of being an artist in Norway. The characters in the exhibition demonstrate a longing to belong to a place when racism, discrimination and unequal treatment are a part of their lived experience.

The exhibition is supported by FrittOrd.

The conversation will be in Norwegian. To read more about the event (in Norwegian), click here.
