On September 27, there will be a hearing in the UN International Court of Justice on the recognition of Russia's crimes of genocide in Ukraine. Artist Daria Pugachova:
On this day, I will perform in front of the Peace Palace. There will be a big transparent cube with me inside writing on its walls: "THE WAR IN UKRAINE IS STILL GOING ON''. I will keep writing this statement for many hours until the cube turns black – the symbol of all-swallowing war.

The war that Ukrainians carry within themselves turns every city we come to into a city of war. Being in a safe place like The Hague I keep living in war. The loss of our home, the loss of our country – Ukrainians carry this loss within themselves. Whenever we go, trying to hide from the war, it’s impossible to escape. The war keeps living and growing inside. The war paints our lives into blackness. The war never ended for us.
I want to keep doing this performance in the ‘peaceful’ cities of the world to show that war never ends when we come to safety. There is no peace. Because we are here. This is how we feel in our fragile homes in Ukraine. And this is how we feel here, being surrounded by peace. There is no peace for us. Any city is a city of war.
With the victory of Ukraine and acknowledging all Russian crimes that they committed to our country and people – the war should end.

Daria Pugachova is an multidisciplinary artist, performer and art activist born in Rivne, Ukraine. In her projects, Daria uses participatory practices to unite a community and integrate art into daily life. She works with performance, video and socially engaged arts. From 2013 to 2019 she played drums in a female trio Panivalkova. Daria is a finalist of Circa x Dazed Class and a winner of the Piccadilly Lights Prize; her video ‘Microcosmos’ was shown at Piccadilly Lights in London in 2022. Daria’s latest projects are based on her experience of war. She explores the topic of freedom and limitation, working towards emotional pain and trauma with the voice, body and ritual.

З 18 по 27 вересня в Міжнародному суді ООН відбуваються слухання щодо визнання російських злочинів геноциду в Україні.
В останній день цього слухання 27 вересня, я планую перформанс перед Палацом Миру. Біля палацу буде знаходитись прозорий куб, я буду всередині нього. Декілька годин поспіль я буду писати на його стінах “THE WAR IN UKRAINE IS STILL GOING ON”. Я буду писати цю фразу доти, доки куб стане чорним - як символ всепоглинаючої війни.

Війна, яку ми переживаємо всередині, перетворює кожне місто на місто війни. Перебуваючи в такому мирному місті, як Гаага, я продовжую жити війною. Втрата дому, втрата країни – ми несемо цю втрату в собі. Ми покидаємо свій дім, намагаючись втекти від війни, але війна продовжує жити і рости зсередини. Війна забарвлює наші життя в чорний колір. Війна для нас ніколи не закінчувалась.
Я хочу втілювати цей перформанс у «мирних» містах світу, щоб показати, що війна досі триває – навіть тоді, коли ми потрапляємо в безпечний простір. Миру немає. Бо ми тут. Так ми почуваємося в наших крихких домівках під обстрілами в Україні. І так ми відчуваємо себе тут, оточені миром. Немає миру для нас. Будь-яке місто може стати містом війни.
З перемогою України та визнанням усіх російських злочинів, які вони скоїли перед нашою країною та народом, – війна закінчитися.

Дар’я Пугачова – художниця, перформерка та арт-активістка родом із Рівного. Дар’я створює перформанси в публічних просторах. У своїх проектах використовує партисипативні практики, щоб об’єднати спільноти та інтегрувати мистецтво в повсякденне життя. З 2013 по 2019 рік була учасницею музичного тріо Panivalkova. Дар’я стала фіналісткою міжнародного конкурсу Circa x Dazed Class 2022 та володаркою нагороди Piccadilly Lights Prize; її фільм “Мікрокосмос” про життя полтавських дворів показали на площі Пікаділлі у Лондоні. Її останні проекти базуються на досвіді війни. Художниця працює з темою свободи та обмежень – через роботу з тілом, звуком та ритуалами досліджує травму війни, та посилює видимість України на міжнародному мистецькому фронті.
